Principal's Report - Tuesday 19th July 2016

Parent Teacher Interviews
Just a reminder that Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on Monday August 1 – from 3.45pm to 6.30pm. Appointments are not necessary and the interviews will take place in the Science and Language Centre. I hope that all families are able to send someone to these meetings as they provide a great opportunity to hear firsthand about how your son or daughter is progressing.

SMS System
Over the next weeks we will be trialling an SMS system to notify parents and carers about student absences. We will be using the mobile phone number that is connected to Parent A on the student’s enrolment form. You will not be able to reply to the SMS message, however if you wish to query the absence, please contact the general office. In future, we hope to use the SMS system to remind families about upcoming DMSC events.

To ensure that we have all contact details correct, we will be sending home a copy of the family details that we currently have on our system. All families will be asked to make any changes, sign the document and return it to school as soon as possible. Please check that your mobile phone number and email address are correct.

State Cross Country
Congratulations to Danni Haebich and Olivia Revell who represented DMSC at the State Cross Country last week. Both girls ran very well and did themselves and our school proud with their efforts.

Pre Service Teachers
I would like to welcome our two new pre-service teachers to DMSC. Jake Hobbs is in his final year of a Bachelor of Education and his methods are Physical Education and Maths, and he will be with us for eight weeks. Susie McDonald is on her first teaching round and her methods are Chemistry and Science. Susie will be with us for five weeks. We hope they both enjoy their time at DMSC.

MATES Mentoring Program
Last Wednesday evening, the 2016-2017 MATES Mentoring Program was launched at DMSC. Thank you to Sue Kuhnell who is responsible for the organisation of this most valuable program and a special thank you to the many community members who have volunteered to be MATES. I am sure the rewards for both the Mentors and Mentees will be significant.

Thank You Breakfast
Next Wednesday morning, we are hosting a “Thank You Breakfast” for all of the local businesses who have hosted our students in either the Work Experience or Work Placement programs. This is our way of saying a heartfelt thank you to the employers who willingly give DMSC students a go. Invitations have been sent out – however if we have missed your business, PLEASE contact the office and leave your details if you would like to attend. (Please see the invitation below.) The VETiS Hospitality students will be preparing the breakfast which commences at 7.00am.

Tidy Towns Judging
Tomorrow morning (Wednesday 20th) the Tidy Towns judges will be visiting DMSC. This year we have entered the school section and the judges will be looking at our new collection of bins – which have custom designs on them, made by the Year 11 and 12 VCAL students. Once again the school is extremely appreciative of the support offered by Jan Ballard – Jan is passionate about our town and our school and she is always willing to give us her support. Thank you also to the VCAL teachers and students who have been involved with the project.
