Another Baby for DMSC!
Congratulations to staff member Anna Exell and husband Hamish on the birth of Gracie May Exell on May 14th. We were delighted to hear of Gracie’s early – but safe arrival and we wish Anna and her family all the very best at this most special time. We are looking forward to welcoming Gracie to DMSC very soon.
Koorie Dance Performance
Congratulations to three DMSC students, Niah Boundy, Tallula Harradine-Hodge and Yasmin Harradine who will be joined by other Wimmera students on Friday evening for a contemporary dance performance. With choreography and support from the Bangarra Professional Dance Company, our students will participate in a performance of “Tchingal” – The Giant Emu story. Our three students have committed significant time and energy into this performance and I am looking forward to the production on Friday night. The performance commences at 6.00pm in the Ian Maroske Hall at Horsham College.
Little Desert Cross Country
Well done to the many students who did their best at the cross country in Kaniva last week. There were some excellent performances and we have a strong team who have qualified for the next round in Warrnambool. Thank you to the staff who accompanied the students to Kaniva.
Staff Professional Development
Throughout the year, many staff members have been undertaking professional development in a wide range of areas. While this sometimes means that teachers are not in the classroom with their students, all professional learning which assists staff to develop and improve their practice is well worthwhile and the fundamental aim is always for an improvement in student outcomes. By outcomes, I mean the full breadth of learning that students undertake at school. This learning is not just in traditional curriculum areas, but this year we also have staff developing their knowledge and skills in the many areas of student engagement and wellbeing. I firmly believe that the most effective teachers are those that never stop learning themselves and to this end, we will continue with our program of professional learning this year, and beyond.
Australian Scout Medallion
Yesterday, I was delighted to receive a letter of congratulations regarding our Year 9 student, Bradley Walker, who has recently been awarded the Australian Scout Medallion. The letter was sent to me from Mr Brendan J Watson OAM, who is the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Victoria. He was commending Bradley on this great achievement
and acknowledging the significant effort that Bradley had made, in order to qualify for the highest award in junior Scouting. (Age 11-14 years) On behalf of the DMSC community, we congratulate Bradley on this achievement and
wish him well as he moves into the senior years of the scouting movement.
Wimmera Representative Teams
Congratulations to Rianna Kuhne, Olivia Jorgensen, Ben Miller and Mark Polycarpou who all represented the Wimmera Football and Netball League in matches against the Sunraysia League last weekend in Mildura. The girls were fortunate to win their match, however the boys did not get over the line against a strong opposition. Well
done – I am sure you all represented Dimboola with pride.
