Principal's Report - Tuesday 3rd May 2016

Little Desert Athletics
Congratulations to our many DMSC competitors who participated in the Athletics Sports in Nhill yesterday. While it was a rather cold and windy day, our students gave their best and represented our school with pride. There were some outstanding performances and these students will now progress to the next level of competition in Ballarat. Thank you to the staff who accompanied the students, Mr Jackson O’Neill, Mr Luke Werner, Mrs Myrna Allan and Mrs Sue Bell. Thank you also to the many parents who went along to support the students.

Student Attitude to School Survey
Last week, all of our students were surveyed regarding various aspects of our school practice. This was the annual survey that the Department of Education asks us to conduct and the data is used to develop our school programs and reflect on our strengths and weaknesses. In the coming months, the Parent Survey will be conducted, with a random selection of families asked to participate. I look forward to seeing the results of both of these surveys and using the information to make our school even better.

School Review
As I have mentioned in the past few newsletters, 2016 is DMSC’s year of review. At our last Parent Teacher night, I asked many of you to complete a short two question survey. Attached to today’s newsletter is a copy of those questions and it would be wonderful if you could complete the slip and return it to school if you haven’t already done so. Please ask your son or daughter to return the slip to the office.

Restaurant Night
This Wednesday is our first DMSC Restaurant Night for 2016. Ms Cat Clarke and her VETiS Hospitality students have put together a scrumptious sounding menu and I am very much looking forward to sampling their wares. This event is booked out, however be sure to secure a table at our next restaurant night which will be on Wednesday June 1st.

House Cross Country
Next Monday afternoon, we will be running our House Cross Country competition. This will involve all students and it will commence at 2.00pm. All students are expected to participate to earn points for their house and only students with a note on medical grounds will be exempt from competing. Please ensure that your son/daughter comes to school with appropriate running gear.

NAPLAN
On May 10-12 the school will be conducting NAPLAN tests for students in Years 7 and 9. These tests are designed to assess a range of competencies in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Please encourage your child to approach the NAPLAN with a positive attitude.
