Year 12 Graduation

On Friday night, Year 12 students, their parents and college staff members attended the formal event, which included dinner and the presentation of gifts from Sue Kuhnell (Senior School coordinator), Kristin Klinge (Year 12 Form teacher) and Marianne Tellbach (VCAL Hospitality coordinator). DMSC Acting Principal, Anne Gawith welcomed the families and gave a speech relating to the students' achievements over their six years at school.

The graduates were presented with time capsules they made in Year 7 at the college, which include each students prediction of where life may take them. After the official proceedings the students were handed over to their families as high school graduates.

This year all 26 students passed either VCE or VCAL, undertaking subjects including English, Biology, Heath, History Revolutions, Physical Education, Studio Art, Further Maths, Psychology, German, Food and Technology, Information Technology, and Product Design and Technology. The students will receive their official certificates at the college awards night on December 17.

Bound for the USA

On the 16th of January in 2015, one of our college's Year 11 students, Elite Pyers, will be flying to Colorado U.S.A to live in Fort Collins for a year as a Rotary Exchange student. This wonderful, life-changing experience has been made possible thanks to the Nhill Rotary Club, which is graciously sponsoring Elite for his exchange and his Rotary counsellor is Christine Dufty from Nhill.

In 2015, Elite will attend Rocky Mountain High a secondary college that has around 500 students in his year level, a vast difference from his current year level of 20 students. Elite stated that "I'm looking forward to going to the U.S.A because it will be so different from home." He returns to Dimboola in January 2016.

Remembrance Day Commemorated

A special assembly was held at 10.50am on Tuesday 11th November to commemorate Remembrance Day. School Captains Mikayla Smith and Andrew King addressed the school sharing some historical anecdotes about World War One and explaining the significance of November 11, as well as outlining the history of our school.

Mikayla and Andrew highlighted the unique nature of DMSC as a purpose built memorial school, and acknowledged that the memorial building was opened 90 years ago next month, in December 1924.

A minute of silence was held at 11am in memory of our military personnel who have served in all conflicts.

Year 10 German Excursion

On Thursday 30th of October most of the Year 10 German class travelled to Melbourne for the Goethe and AGTV German Film Competition. After a lot of work during term three to write, plan, direct, film and edit the entry, the students had submitted an excellent piece on the topic of celebrating German called 'Die Vereinigte Stadt Feiert' (the united city celebrates) about the reunification of Berlin in 1989.

On Thursday we began the day by visiting the Queen Victoria Market to see the different German foods on offer (and peruse the many bargains on offer). We then travelled by tram down to Federation Square to watch the entrants on the big screen at ACMI. There were some great submissions from many different schools state wide, all looking at different reasons to celebrate German language and culture. We were very impressed by our competition, and were very proud to win third prize in the senior school category! Thank you very much to Donna Schultz for accompanying us on the day and for all the students who helped out as extras in the film. Gut gemacht zusammen!

Good news for German classes

DMSC has received news that we will be sharing a Language assistant with Rainbow Secondary College in 2015. I have been in contact with Annalaura Meissner and she is very excited at the prospect of spending next year assisting students at both of these schools with their German language classes.

We have also had confirmation from a teacher at one of our exchange partner schools, the Heinrich Heine Schule that they are keen to ensure that the exchange takes place again as early as next year. Planning has begun to explore the possibility of the German students visiting our Australian schools first this time, which could mean that the German students would come to stay in September 2015. Expressions of interest from any students currently studying German in Years 8-10 will be sought once details have been finalised.
